About Me

Hello! My name is Kimberly, a.k.a the Jabbercookie. You seem to have stumbled upon my Blog o' Mischmasch. Well, here it is - my little electronic pocket of the universe, and I say welcome. Glad to have you =)

Here you'll find a smorgasbord of entries spotlighting all the lovely things that fill my world. My interests include cooking, food, crocheting, books, hula hooping, films, video games, television, music, travel, and more good stuff. I aim for each post in this blog to serve as a time capsule of sorts of life as it is lived day-by-day, project-by-project, discovery-by-discovery.

I currently live in Los Angeles with my HunBun. He's the love of my life, and the sweetest, most hardworking man. He's also a perfect guinea pig in my quest to become a better home cook.

In my opinion, there is little better than a good homemade meal. I grew up eating a lot of TV dinners and eating out at restaurants quite frequently. It wasn't until I started cooking myself that I discovered how simply elegant a homemade meal is when served to loved ones and friends. And in this day and age, it's considerably more affordable to cook at home. Perfecting the classics like chili con carne, spaghetti, and fried skillet steaks, while also playing around with new recipes or new ingredients that I've never worked with or tasted before is how I like to cook. My kitchen aresenal includes James' grandma's 50-year-old cast iron skillet, a copy of The JOY of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer, et al, a mortar and pestle, this DVD collection of The French Chef with Julia Child, a knife sharpener, and my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer.

My philosophy on cooking is like my philosophy on life: Take your time, plan the system out, and enjoy the burner flare-ups along with the desserts. And when those flare-ups happen, just remember what Julia Child says, "let the utensils fall where they may!" (Julia Child, F.C. episode "Apple Tarte Tatin").

The stage is set.
